BERLIN (New York Times) - Two United States airmen were killed and two injured on Wednesday when a gunman opened fire on an American military bus at the Frankfurt airport, according to American military officials in Europe.
The names of the dead were being withheld pending notification of the families, the officials said. President Obama told reporters in Washington that he was "saddened and outraged" by the attack, and called for the perpetrators to be brought to justice.
The suspected gunman, who is in custody, is 21-year-old Kosovar who lives in Frankfurt, according to a city police spokesman, Manfred Füllhardt.

President Obama says the government will "spare no effort" to determine why two American airmen were killed and two others were wounded in a shooting in Frankfurt, Germany.
"I'm saddened, and I am outraged, by this attack that took the lives of two Americans and wounded two others. I think the American people are united in expressing our service to those who were lost," Obama told reporters in a surprise appearance in the briefing room. "We are praying for a speedy recovery for those who were injured."Arif Uka, a 21-year-old Muslim was arrested after the shooting in a public lane outside the busy airport's Terminal 2. He was reportedly armed with an automatic weapon and a knife.

Police initially stated he is Kosovan, but in an interview on Wednesday night, the man's uncle claimed he was born and raised in Germany and worked at the airport.
The bus driver and a passenger were killed, and one person suffered serious wounds and another light injuries. An air force spokesman said police had the suspect in custody and that all four men were based in Britain at Lakenheath airfield. Lakenheath is home to the 48th Fighter Wing, the United States' only F-15 fighter wing.
