With the state GOP's regional vice chairs poised to re-interview Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy tonight, Rick Lazio got a boost from Senate Minority Leader Dean Skelos, who reaffirmed his support of the former congressman's gubernatorial bid.
Asked during an interview on WGDK AM Talk 1300 if he could possibly support Levy, a conservative Democrat who launched an exploratory committee for a possible run for governor back in January, Skelos replied:
"I do support Rick Lazio. If the party leadership throughout the state indicated that (Levy) was the best candidate, if he was a Republican, if we had an understanding with the Conservatives in terms of an endorsement, yeah I could (support Levy), but in terms of realities…I don’t think that’s going to happen."
"He will have to explain to the American people why his vision for bigger government, more spending, and higher taxes will work over the next four years when it hasn't worked in the past three and a half years.” – Sen. Rob Portman on President Obama
