Reid: Probe of Quran Burning Considered

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says congressional lawmakers are discussing taking some action in response to the Koran burnings of a Tennessee pastor that led to killings at the U.N. facility in Afghanistan and sparked protests across the Middle East, Politico reports.

“Ten to 20 people have been killed," Reid said Sunday on CBS’ “Face the Nation.” “We’ll take a look at this of course. As to whether we need hearings or not, I don’t know.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham said Congress might need to explore the need to limit some forms of freedom of speech, in light of Tennessee pastor Terry Jones’ Quran burning, and how such actions result in enabling U.S. enemies.

"I wish we could find a way to hold people accountable. Free speech is a great idea, but we're in a war," Graham told CBS' Bob Schieffer on “Face the Nation” Sunday. Read more at newsmax.com.

Muslims Burn Effigy of Obama in Afghanistan; President Karzai Demands Pastor Terry Jones Be Punished

Enraged demonstrators took to the streets of Afghanistan for a third day Sunday, killing two and injuring dozens of others after a fundamentalist Florida pastor burned the Koran.

President Hamid Karzai repeated his call to the White House, Senate and United Nations to bring to justice Terry Jones, the Gainsville, Fla. pastor who organized a mock "trial" that resulted in the burning of Islam's holy book on Friday, officials said. Read more at nydailynews.com.

Obama Criticizes Quran Burning, Afghan Attacks

President Barack Obama is extending his deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed in the northern Afghan city of Mazar-i-Sharif by protesters enraged by the burning of a Quran in Florida.

Obama says desecration of the Quran "is an act of extreme intolerance and bigotry."

But he says that does not justify attacking and killing innocent people, calling it "outrageous and an affront to human decency and dignity." Read more at ap.org.
