In the summer of 2020, Black Lives Matter protestors seized control of several city blocks around the East Police Precinct in Seattle. What started as a protest against police violence transformed into an unprecedented social experiment when the city decided to evacuate the precinct and the area, creating a “police-free zone” that became known as the Capitol Hill Occupied Protest, aka CHOP. What the mayor predicted would be a "summer of love" soon turned chaotic and deadly.
